Dakota Leathernecks Selected as Grand Marshal for Mandan’s 147th Independence Day Parade

 

MANDAN, ND – April 7, 2026 – The Mandan Progress Organization (MPO), Visit Mandan, City of Mandan and Mandan Independence Day committee are proud to announce the Dakota Leathernecks Detachment #1419 of the Marine Corps League as the Grand Marshal of the 147th Mandan Independence Day Parade. The 2026 Grand Marshal is brought to you by Marathon Mandan Refinery.

Recognized as the largest Independence Day celebration in North Dakota, the parade will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM. This year’s theme, “Celebrate 250,” honors both the upcoming United States Semiquincentennial and the deep-rooted traditions that have made Mandan’s celebration a regional cornerstone since 1879.

“It’s not only the 250th birthday of the United States, but also the 250th birthday of the Marine Corps,” said Randy Lehmann of the Dakota Leathernecks Detachment #1419. “We have the opportunity to celebrate our country while honoring the Marines who came before us and the legacy they built.”

The selection of the Dakota Leathernecks Detachment #1419 recognizes their unwavering commitment to veterans and the Mandan community. Composed of Marines, Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Sailors, and associate members, the detachment is dedicated to preserving the proud traditions of the U.S. Marine Corps while serving local veterans and their families. Through color guard ceremonies, community outreach, and continued service, the Leathernecks embody the enduring spirit of American patriotism and sacrifice.

Their presence at the head of our 147th parade will make this year’s celebration truly special.”
